Kepulauan Seribu — Every child has the right to grow in an environment where they feel safe, respected, and heard. This belief underpins PT Nusantara Regas’ (NR) commitment to supporting education in Kepulauan Seribu, not only by expanding access to learning, but also by strengthening character, courage, and care for others.
This spirit was once again demonstrated through NR’s collaboration with Master of Law students from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Jakarta Campus in a legal education session themed “Building Safe School Spaces from the Dangers of Sexual Violence and Bullying” for students of SMAN 69 Jakarta on Pramuka Island, Kepulauan Seribu, on Friday, May 26.
The students were invited to understand issues closely related to adolescent life, ranging from building respectful relationships and recognizing personal boundaries to identifying forms of inappropriate behavior and creating a safe educational ecosystem in line with legal perspectives.
Prof. Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana, S.H., LL.M., M.A., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Information Systems at the Faculty of Law, UGM, highlighted the importance of building healthy relationships between teachers and students. He emphasized that the educational process requires firmness, but must never be carried out through violence, bullying, or degrading actions.
“Firmness in education must never turn into violence. The relationship between teachers and students must be built on mutual respect, because appreciation and support can help foster children’s self-confidence and positive character,” Prof. Jaka said in his remarks.
The education session was then delivered by Susilaningtias, S.H., M.H., Commissioner of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (LPSK RI), who provided students with an understanding of various forms of bullying and their psychological, physical, social, and economic impacts on victims.
“Children need to understand that violence is not always clearly visible. Degrading jokes, peer pressure, violations of personal boundaries, and violence in digital spaces can make someone feel unsafe. Therefore, it is important for students to have the courage to recognize, reject, and seek help when facing inappropriate actions,” Susi said.
For NR, this activity forms part of the company’s commitment to supporting human resource development in its operational areas. Previously, NR had implemented the Education Scholarship Program as part of its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) initiative, focusing on improving access to higher education for young people from Kepulauan Seribu.
Through the scholarship program, NR provides tuition support to selected recipients based on academic merit, both at the Diploma III level at Universitas Indonesia and the undergraduate level at Universitas Pertamina. The program has reached 35 beneficiaries across different cohorts during the 2020–2025 period.
NR Director of Operations & Commercial, Mahfud Fauzi, conveyed a direct message that education should be understood broadly, not only as an academic process, but also as a process of developing well-rounded individuals.
“The children of Kepulauan Seribu have great potential. Our shared responsibility is to ensure that they not only have access to education, but also feel safe, respected, and confident in pursuing their future. Through this activity, we hope the students will better understand that mutual respect is the foundation of a healthy school environment,” Mahfud said.
Mahfud also emphasized that NR’s presence among the students of SMAN 69 Jakarta reflects the company’s close relationship with the Kepulauan Seribu community.
“For NR, energy is not only about supply that supports life. Energy also means igniting hope, courage, and care. We want children in Kepulauan Seribu to know that their voices matter, their future is valuable, and they are not walking alone,” Mahfud added.
Through this activity, NR aims to deliver the message that the best investment for the future of Kepulauan Seribu is an investment in its people. From opening access to higher education through scholarships to providing education that builds character and courage from school age, NR continues to strive to be part of the growth journey of the islands’ younger generation.
